The Argyll Poppy ©, painted by Lorraine M. DeGroote, commemorates the life and service of fallen Argylls. Each poppy donated will appear on the Argyll Field of Remembrance, above, with the name of the person honoured and an inscription, according to the donor’s wishes.
You may know whose life you wish to remember. If you do not, you may search for an Argyll in the database called “Roll of Honour.” It contains the names of all those who served with the 19th Battalion, CEF, the 173rd Canadian Highlanders (both perpetuated by the Argylls), all of the units perpetuated by the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion (amalgamated with the Argylls in 1936), and the lst Battalion, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s). You may also donate a poppy in recognition of an individual not on the Roll of Honour but who also served. One poppy may have more than one subscriber.
Each red flower on the field in the watercolour above represents one of the poppies donated. Click on each poppy to see which individual it recognizes. If, after completing your donation and viewing your poppy you would like to change what text displays to the public, click on the button “Edit List of Poppies,” above, and follow the instructions for entering your email to access your list. You must request a new “editing key” every time you make a change.
This campaign is the third in the history of the ARF. The inaugural campaign of 1980 raised over $200,000; the second, in 2002-04, raised almost $1,000,000. Under the leadership of the Campaign Chairman, Honorary Colonel Ron Foxcroft, the ARF hopes to double its current endowment to over $1,000,000. The campaign was officially launched in February 2016 and will run until 26 May 2019, a total of 40 months. The campaign’s official end will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the demobilization of the First World War battalion, the 19th, on 26 May 1919.
